Whitley Community Development Association, Charity of the Year, sponsor Roc Search

A community group has been praised for their activities in Whitley which have kept people fed and helped thousands, it is said.

Whitley Community Development Association has been nominated again for Charity of the Year, an award which they won in 2021.

One nominator said: “For a small charity, the work they do with all members of the community is outstanding.

“They make sure that all voices are heard and work is done with them and not to them.

“Over the past 18 months they have built a fantastic partnership with the NHS and brought health checks out into the community for the most marginalised,” they added.

“They also have a great partnership with the University of Reading where the work (they do) on the FoodSEqual project has listened and researched with community members to bring about positive change in the food supply chain.”

They added: “This group of volunteers have fed the community since Covid and continues to do so. They have helped thousands of families in the community in these hard times.”

Charity of the Year, sponsored by international recruitment firm Roc Search, recognised a local charity that has made an amazing impact on our community through partnership working with businesses, other charities and the public sector.
