Reading-based digital artist Leslee Barron has been the backbone of the Newtown Community Garden said her nominator for Community Champion, sponsored by Reading Football Club.
She has been “tirelessly bringing individuals and families together to share and learn about nature in a piece of previously neglected urban space,” they said.
The community garden is a rewilding project by residents aiming to bring joy and pleasure to a little green oasis between Cumberland Road and Amity Road.
Leslee has also been organising art exhibitions in unique spaces around Newtown as a volunteer to showcase the work of local artists in a range of Newtown venues.
Her work has been inspired by the East Reading Gas Tower and the Reading landscape.
