Local Hero, Glen Edwards, sponsor Green Park
The quick thinking and bravery of a crane driver who saved the life of a workman trapped on the roof of a burning office building has prompted a nomination for the Local Hero award.
Reading Central MP Matt Rodda, who nominated Glen Edwards for the award, said: “Mr Edwards’ actions to rescue this workman from being engulfed in the smoke and flames have been widely, and justifiably, hailed as being heroic and many are calling for his actions to be recognised.”
Glen hoisted a rescue cage, attached to his crane, on the roof of the Station Hill development in central Reading after seeing the man waving his coat in the smoke.
The rescue was witnessed by hundreds of local people and motorists who clapped and cheered as the rescue was effected.
The Local Hero award is sponsored by Green Park.
