A community-driven family-run jewellers about to celebrate their 75th year of operations has been praised for the whopping amount they have raised for a health charity.
Royal Berks Charity has put forward Jacobs the Jewellers for the Business In Action under 50 employees award sponsored by law firm Boyes Turner.
The charity said: “The Berkshire-based jewellers has always had close links with the community it serves and this bedrock commitment remains honoured.
“Incredibly, over the last decade, Jacobs have already helped fundraise £136,000 for the Royal Berks Charity.”
In 2023, Jacobs hope to fundraise a further £39,000 to take the total to £175,000 to mark its 75th anniversary.
The nominator added: “As long-time supporters of the charity and Royal Berkshire Hospital, Jacobs have helped us do some amazing things,”
These include funding a surface guided radiation therapy machine for the Berkshire Cancer Centre “which makes a huge difference to patients receiving radiotherapy,” said the charity.
During treatment, cameras ensure the radiation is precisely targeted so the area receives the maximum dose of radiation therapy and surrounding healthy tissue receives a much lower dose.
“A further benefit is that patients no longer need to have the treatment area tattooed which can be necessary with other forms of radiotherapy delivery,” they said.
