Cultural Contribution, Berkshire Theatre School, sponsor M&G Real Estate
A “brilliant team” of 200 young people come together on a Saturday to train with industry professionals in musical theatre.
Berkshire Theatre School (BTS) provides a family-like atmosphere, where the team and children support, share and grow together across all age groups, said its nominator for the Cultural Contribution award.
“Every child is valued, and all are encouraged to grow and reach their potential,” they said. Scholarships are available through funding from the Kevin Cruise Foundation, so the experience and training can be shared by everyone.
“BTS are wonderful and passionate champions of the arts with many students past and present performing in films, television and the West End.
“The young people comment that BTS is their “extended family”, where they make lifelong friends and develop skills not just for theatre but can take into everyday life.
“The shows are professional in all aspects, with opportunities for the children to perform in theatres, seeing the full cycle of how a show is created, from auditions to performing, to creating sets, the props, music and more,” added the nominator.
“It is a special community that develops not only musical theatre skills, but instils kindness, respect, courage and creativity and provides a safe space where all children can thrive.
“It is testament that many young adults that have ‘grown up’ through the school, return to help, work and support BTS in productions, summer schools and Saturday school.
“BTS makes a positive change in our community through providing opportunities to young people in the arts in Reading and beyond,” said the nominator.
