WINNER: Damian and Martina Jones of Pop Classics sponsored by Rabbits Vehicle Hire

A record shop in Caversham is ‘the spirit of community and cultural enrichment’.

Speaking about Pop Classics, which is run by Damian and Martina Jones in the St Martin’s precinct, their nominator said: “They go merely beyond selling records. “It serves as a vibrant hub where music lovers of all ages converge, sharing stories and discovering music together, thus revitalising the local community’s engagement with music and the arts.

“These events not only boost local culture but also support emerging artists, providing them with a platform that might otherwise be inaccessible.

“In an era dominated by online shopping and large chains, the shop champions the importance of personal touch and community-focused retailing.

“Their knowledgeable staff not only offer recommendations and insights into music but also create an inviting atmosphere that welcomes conversation and exploration.”

After receiving the award, Damian said: “It’s surreal. Although we’ve been training for 20 years, our physical shop in Reading has only been up for just over a year. We’re honoured and surprised.”

Martina added: “We don’t just get people from Caversham, but people from all over the area which is really nice. We’ve got local artists that come in which is so important to support.”
