A brand new award for this year’s event, Eclectic were praised for their welcome and knowledgeable staff who have hosted a whole variety of events in Reading.

Darrell and Becky Ottery have been operating the games shop in Reading since 2006 and won the prize after coming first in a public vote.

One nominator said: “It is a really great shop that fosters a lovely community and has great helpful staff.

“When I first came to Reading, it was through Eclectic Games that I found all my local friends.

“They also helped me with my own game design ideas by providing the space and advertising to get people to come to my event.”

After taking to the stage to collect the award, Becky said: “It’s very gratifying, we’re both stunned.

“We were in very good company in a long list of retailers. I’ve always looked at the Pride of Reading Awards and gone ‘those are awesome, I wish there was a category that we could fit into so it’s now so amazing to win this award.’

“I’m really touched that our customers have been so completely enthusiastic, we just do what we do which is to try and provide fun and entertainment.”

Darrell added: “We’ve got our annual takeover at the Wokingham Town Hall coming up. We run a full calendar of events, week night events Monday to Friday and varying things at the weekend.”
