HE IS one of the biggest names in pop, with a career spanning decades – he’s even made the Guinness Book of Records. Now, he’s preparing Engelbert Humperdinck is preparing to celebrate his oeuvre with a retrospective celebration.
A contemporary of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, friends with Elvis and a pin-up on the wall of millions of teenage bedrooms, he has enjoyed hit after hit after hit.
It all started with Release Me, a record that won a record after achieving 56 consecutive weeks on the charts, and was a number one hit in 11 countries.
Others followed, seeing him sell more than 140 million records across the world, picking up 64 gold and 35 platinum albums, four Grammy Award nominations, a Golden Globe, and his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
He says he takes great pleasure in every moment on stage.
His music has transcended time and his voice continues to reach out to people now – serving to transport and inspire, to embrace and to provoke feelings and emotions…ingredients that are no doubt the essence of his long-lasting success.
It is one of his most famous hits, The Last Waltz, that lends its name to this, his landmark year.
The artist is constantly touring the world to sell-out crowds, but not for much longer, for The Last Waltz Farewell Tour is coming to the UK this autumn.
He will be in The London Palladium on Sunday, September 8, before dates in Manchester’s Opera House on Monday, September 9, Birmingham Symphony Hall on Tuesday, September 10, and Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on Thursday, September 12.
There will also be reissues of some of his greatest albums, streaming compilations, and some surprises.
