THAMES Valley Police says it takes all reports of unauthorised encampments seriously.
This is when an individual or group move their vehicles onto land they don’t own, and intend to live on it without permission of the owner. It can include fields and car parks.
The force says it recognises that such encampments can cause distress and disruption as well as have an impact on businesses and communities.
Any reports are assessed by officers including determining if they are lawful or action is unnecessary. This takes into account the impact on the landowner and those around the encampment.
A spokesperson said: “We carefully consider all reports of unauthorised encampments and take proportionate action where necessary, making sure we also take into account the rights and freedoms of all people concerned.”
Reports of unauthorised encampments can be made online via the Thames Valley Police website or by calling 101. The force says 999 should only be used in emergency situations; when a life is in danger or a crime is happening right now.
