THAMES Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to an assault in Reading.
It follows an incident that took place at around 12am on Monday, August 26, where a woman was walking down Richfield Avenue after leaving Reading Festival, talking to the offender.
After a short time, the victim felt uncomfortable and asked the offender to leave her alone.
An affray broke out between the offender and a group of people, but when the victim tried to intervene, she was punched in the face.
She sustained bruising and swelling to her jaw, which required hospital treatment, though she has since been discharged.
A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault by beating, a count of Section 18, grievous bodily harm with intent, and a further count of racially/religiously aggravated harassment, alarm, or distress.
He has been released on bail.
Investigating officer, PC Thomas Kelly said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to this assault to please come forward.
“It happened on Richfield Avenue at a time where a large number of people will have been exiting Reading Festival, so I am confident that this incident will have been seen.
