Reading FC’s hopes of making a push for a play-off place were dealt a significant blow as they were defeated in a five-goal game at AFC Wimbledon.
Wimbledon winger Marcus Browne netted a hat-trick to gift the hosts all three points despite Jack Marriott and Jeriel Dorsett bringing Reading level twice.
Reading fans reacted to the loss on social media, which saw Leam Richardson’s side drop down to 11th and nine points below the top six.
Reacting to the loss at full-time, one fan said: “When the hell will people wake up and let people criticise the pathetic way Leam sets us up. The way he wants to play. It is s***. He is a crap cheap manager. Play-offs dead and there is one reason.”
Another said: “Shocking, tried to be positive before the game but that’s poor, conceding three goals like that. Just not good enough.”
Another fan added: “Those of you, players, fans, management who thought play-offs were doable this season had better give your heads a wobble, with this squad we could be top six on paper, but the reality is, we are nowhere near good enough, mid table at best, worst case scenario fighting relegation.”
Another supporter expressed their concern about the away form and said: “That will stop all talk about play-offs finally from players and fans. The players should stay silent on it now as well get real we are a mid table team if you can’t go to a team that ain’t won at home in eight, you don’t deserve to get there. We have been pants away for years.”
One fan said: “Pathetic. What the hell was the plan today? Awful subs. Awful mindset. Again. Football for the people my backside.”
Reading will look to get back on track on Tuesday night when they travel away to Wigan Athletic, who were thumped 6-1 at Peterborough today (Saturday).
Wigan are in danger of being relegated and are currently in 22nd position on 31 points.
