A Korean and Japanese restaurant could stay open past midnight if a bid for extended hours is accepted.
Gooi Nara, in Whitley Street has been around for years, serving dishes such as bulgogi, katsu, sushi and more to diners.
Currently, the eatery is open from 11.30am to 3pm for lunch and 5.30pm to 10pm for dinner service in the evening.
Now, the owners of the restaurant and takeaway want to sell alcohol until midnight and serve food and soft drinks until 00.30am each night.
Explaining the restaurant’s plans, Lan Lee, the director, said: “Just in case, sometimes people come late, they may want to stay longer, so just in case we applied for extended hours.”
Gooi Nara accepts takeaways and delivery orders over the phone, and through the food app Deliveroo. It is open six days a week, as it closes every Monday.
According to the review website TripAdvisor, Gooi Nara is one of the top 50 restaurants in Reading, coming in 49th place based on 99 reviews.
A statutory consultation is being held by Reading Borough Council into the licensing application.
