THAMES Valley Police is inviting parents and carers to an online session to help prevent knife crime later this month.
This week marks Sceptre Week, an initiative which sees police forces across the country to promote the use of knife amnesty bins and publicise the dangers of knife crime, particularly among young people.
The Thames Valley Violence Prevention Partnership is promoting an opportunity for all parents and carers to take part in free online information sessions, run by leading national anti-knife crime charity The Ben Kinsella Trust.
The sessions explore the risk factors behind knife crime, including issues such as exploitation, county drug lines, online harm.
They also explore how fear often leads to young people carrying knives for their what they consider to be own protection, as a result of not knowing who to ask for help.
The sessions seek to give parents confidence on spotting the signs and symptoms that something isn’t right, and how to have those difficult conversations.
They will also provide advice for how trusted adults can help to support young people to make positive choices.
The two-hour session, led by and expert trainer from the Ben Kinsella Trust, will take place over Zoom from 6.30pm-8.30pm on Thursday, November 21.
