FOLLOWING a successful dragon boat event in June at Pangbourne Meadows, Pangbourne Rotary Club is celebrating the positive effects of its fundraising activities.
The club presented ceremonial cheques, each for £1800, to the two principal beneficiary charities of the event: Purley Park Trust, and West Berkshire Homeless.
Larry Grady, CEO of Purley Park Trust thanked Pangbourne Rotary and said the funds would go towards the trust’s unfunded daily drop-in centre, and would also provide extras for residents’ events and trips.
Erica Gassor, trustee and lead befriender of West Berkshire Homeless, said the donation would support 100 homeless people with food and other vouchers.
Tony Eldridge, dragon boat event organiser, said that in 25 years of, an estimated £250,000 had been raised for charity from the proceeds of dragon boating and as a result of the crews’ own sponsorship efforts.
One charity entering a crew this year, has already raised more than £2,500.
