VISITORS to a borough village show were invited to guess the weight of Pablo the pig and his companions; goats Bert, Ernie and Oscar and Chive the lap chicken.

They are all the beloved animals of Laura Hulett, general manager of local care home Signature at Caversham.

Laura took her pets to Sonning Village Show, where festival goers tried to estimate their combined weight to win an animal-themed prize sponsored by the care home.

The show is an annual event showcasing village crafts and produce, with prizes for entrants to win.

Among distinguished visitors this year was former Prime Minister Theresa May, who joined the community in celebrating the day.

Laura’s entertaining challenge prompted around 30 families to mentally calculate her animals’ combined weights, but it was the Parker family who came closest to the correct figure, earning themselves an overnight stay and day pass to Marwell Wildlife Zoo.

Their special prize was sponsored by Signature at Caversham.

Karen Fleming, Client Liaison Manager at Signature at Caversham, said: “Occasions like these are a wonderful way for us to give back to the community, build meaningful relationships, and bring people together in a fun and engaging way.

“They provide the perfect opportunity for us to showcase the spirit that makes Signature at Caversham such a special place.

“We’re proud to be part of the community and look forward to continuing to support and celebrate local initiatives in the future.”

Pablo the pig is something of a star performer in Sonning, known for his walks on the lead around the village, and his visits to the local pub.

He charmed villagers and visitors alike at the village show, which was hosted by Sonning Church of England Primary School.
