READING FC has confirmed that midfielder Ovie Ejaria has departed the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 26-year-old, who was purchased from Liverpool in 2020 for around £3million, has not featured for the side in more than a year.

Ejaria has been omitted from the squad over the last 12 months due to a mix of injuries and disciplinary issues.

He originally joined the Royals back in 2019 on a loan spell from Liverpool as a part of five loan signings who helped the club escape relegation under manager Jose Gomes.

He joined for another loan spell for the 2019/20 season, which Reading then opted to make a permanent deal after several impressive performances.

He made a total of 124 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring nine times.

A statement released by the club reads: “Reading Football Club can confirm that Ovie Ejaria has left the club by mutual consent and becomes a free agent.

“The midfielder, who joined from Liverpool, after impressing during a season-long loan during the 2019-20 campaign, signed permanently with the Royals in the summer of 2020 – making 124 appearances in total and scoring 9 goals.

“Ejaria’s contract was due to expire after the end of this current season. However, with injury and fitness problems limiting first team action of late and a desire from the club to reduce its expenditure, an agreement was amicably reached for Ovie to leave the club early.

“We would like to thank Ovie for his contribution to Reading Football Club and wish him well for the rest of his career.”
