Reading FC fans have reacted after news broke yesterday that a pair of key players are set to miss the rest of the season with injury.

Royals manager Leam Richardson delivered the disappointing news that both Randell Williams and Benn Ward would miss the remainder of the campaign with the side pushing to finish inside the top six.

Reading fans took to social media to react to the news which could have a significant impact on their chances of finishing inside the play-off places.

One fan said: “Mission impossible now. Time for us to get over the line and start preparing for next season. Create a plan for signings and contract offers. Finalise our pre-season plan. Sort out the fitness issue over the summer and in pre-season. Get promoted next season.”

Another said: “Play-off chase most definitely over, if it wasn’t already after going to Stevenage with the intention to lose.”

Another added: “Richardson was complaining about levels of fitness in the squad when he joined, I do wonder if these injuries are him pushing the players to get fitter fast and over stressing their bodies or if it’s down to recruitment of injury prone players. We seem to suffer a lot from injuries.”

Another supporter said: “I don’t think our play-off chances are over until it’s mathematically impossible for us to get in the top six. Let’s hope they group together in the absence of Ward and Williams.”
