IT’S WELL known that students’ diets can go to pot when they go to university … pots of noodles that is.
The white plastic tubs are mealtime savers offering budget meals on the go.
But a Reading restaurant is urging freshers to ditch the dehydrated noodles in favour of fresh.
Marugame Udon in The Oracle’s Riverside is celebrating the launch of its new menu by offering a swap to students.
The dishes are a beef Curry and vegan choices Veggie Yaki Udon and ‘Creamy’ Vegan Udon.
The Beef Curry features beef and caramelised onion in a mildly spicy chunky vegetable curry sauce with udon or rice (from £9.75), the Veggie Yaki Udon has udon noodles with mixed vegetables in a rich miso sauce (from £9.45), and the ‘Creamy’ Vegan Udon are udon noodles in a rich tonkotsu style soup (from £5.95).
Until Sunday, October 8, students can bring a packet of instant noodles for a bowl of hand-made udon noodles, made from three ingredients: wheat, salt and water.
All collected packets will be sent to food banks.
To take part in the offer, students must show ID, and sign up to the Marugame Club. The noodles must be in their original packaging and within their use-by date. They can be exchanged for bowls up to the value of £5.95.
The club allows members to collect ‘bowl stamps’ on every visit to enjoy ongoing freebies, treats and rewards. It also gives new members two free tempura on signing up.
