A convenience store selling alcohol, snacks and groceries has opened opposite a busy pub in Reading town.

King Food & Wine in King’s Road welcomed its first customers earlier this month.

The convenience store has opened after its operators Jiyana Food & Wine won permission to operate as an off licence last November.

It specialises in the sale of Asian, Romanian and Polish food and drinks, which can be sold from 7am to 11pm each day. It also sells fresh fruit and vegetables which can be seen in front of the store.

King Food & Wine is opposite The Back of Beyond Wetherspoon pub.

There is also an established convenience store, the Kings Road News and Off Licence, two doors down from the new shop.

The store operators took over the premises at 91-93 Kings Road after its previous occupiers the Pack & Send posting business closed down in 2021.

Pack & Send operated a showroom for over a decade at the address, before it moved its operations to the Milford Road industrial area.

It is understood that Jiyana Food & Wine also runs the M&M Food & Wine store at 55-57 Wokingham Road in East Reading.
