BLUE Collar Corner turned a little more green and red last week as it celebrated its inaugural Christmas Market in Reading.

The street food and drink hub welcomed stalls from around Reading and Berkshire, including clothes from African Queens, art from Thread and Mercury, and earthenware from Clay by Phoebe, as well as The Hubphonics choir for a festive performance.

It also saw DJ Damien Passmore spinning festive favourites, winter-warmers and hot drinks from Anonymous Coffee, and wreath workshops with Sonning Flowers.

And the star of the show, as always, was the offerings from Heavenly Sausage and Soleluna Pizzas.

Blue Collar’s Pete Wheeler said of the event: “It was a collaboration that we put together over two days with a lot of other local, independent businesses and our favourite food traders to create a Christmas market atmosphere.

“We worked in collaboration with the Reading Indie Market on that as well as the Vintage Flea Market, which is something which originated here earlier this year.”

He explained: “We were keen to have a really diverse stretch of offerings, so we had everything from board games to candles and vintage jewellery.

“Lots of things that are very much in line with what people would want for Christmas, but with a local twist and from local producers and artists.”

“That’s something we’ve continued to do in our time at Blue Collar.”

He added that the event was “exactly what we hoped it would be.

“The choir who joined us, The Hubphonics, went down so well, as well as Christmas tunes from our DJs.”Following the event, Blue Collar Corner is now gearing up for even more festivities in the run-up to Christmas.

“We have A Very Street Food Christmas coming up soon, which focuses on what we do best: the street food.

“We’re working with 13 traders as well as with the British Street Food Awards to bring you some of the best in the UK.

“We will be working with Street Food Santa, also, who will be handing out treats in December.”

Blue Collar is keeping the Christmas coming with A Very Street Food Christmas, which will see seasonal specials from Pig’s Pizza, Potjie Man, Churros Garcia, Fink Street Food, Buddy’s Burgers, Mr Pig Stuff, and Chaat Food Truck.

It will also see performances from Reading Community Gospel Choir and resident and guest DJs when it comes to the venue from Saturday-Sunday, December 15-16.
