WE’RE firmly in the season of summer festivals, and there has been some fantastic music to enjoy this year.
Of course, we’ve got the big one coming up over August bank holiday weekend – Wokingham Festival. You mean there’s another big one in Reading that weekend too? Never heard of it 😉
This week’s playlight includes three acts we recently enjoyed at the Englefield celebration. Goodness, it was fantastic. You can’t beat hearing music live.
Every song from start to finish by all three artists was excellent.
You can hear these tracks, and eight others, when you tune in to our Spotify playlist. It’s free to listen to.
To hear this week’s selection, simply head to https://bit.ly/rawsoundstoday and enjoy the music.
There is also a Facebook page and group chat that bands and music fans can tap into. You can search for RaW Sounds Today and it will come up.
Victoria Canal – Shape
Every year Englefield House hosts a series of musical events and, as well as famous headliners, they include up-and-coming artists such as this talented songwriter who recently won the Ivor Novello Rising Star award.
Victoria has lived in many countries around the world and creates moving emotive music as you can hear on this single.
Sitting in the impressive grounds of Englefield House on an early Sunday evening listening to the beautiful sounds of Victoria and her accompanying musicians was a truly wonderful experience.
Victoria’s talent is clearly noticed by many including Hozier, who invited Victoria on stage during his incredible headlining set that night – https://www.victoriacanal.com/
Hozier – Eat Your Young
Having mentioned Hozier above it only seems right to include one of his recent singles here which will be on his soon-to-be-released new album Unreal Unearth, which is released on Friday, August 18.
What a voice, what a songwriter, what a performer.
He and his band of excellent musicians were just stunning at Englefield House. No wonder Hozier is one of the biggest stars around at the moment – https://hozier.com/
Far From Saints – Faded Black Tattoo
Having included Hozier and Victoria Canal it only seemed right to include this band that were also on the bill the night we went along to Englefield House.
They were also very impressive which is not surprising when they combine the talents of Kelly Jones from Stereophonics with Patty Lynn and Dwight Baker from The Wind and the Wave.
It was Americana at its best and there’s a chance to see them again in Reading when they come to The Hexagon on November 25 – https://farfromsaintsband.com/
Rila’s Edge – The End
Another in this Wokingham-based bands stream of brilliant singles. We can’t wait to see them live at Wokingham Festival when they headline the Wokingham Music Club Stage on Sunday, August 27 – https://www.rilasedge.com/
Cold Blooded Hearts – Worth Waiting
A single from the band led by local resident and QPR manager, Gareth Ainsworth. This is from the band’s debut album, The Cold Light of Day, which is out now – https://www.cherryred.co.uk/artist/the-cold-blooded-hearts/
Los Fastidios – Tender Hooligan
Here’s a band from Italy who has played in Reading for Club Velocity and they are back on August 8 at Reading Face Bar. Here’s their new single which features Elisa Dixan on vocals – https://www.facebook.com/losfastidios
Trim – Doll House
Local band Trim release their first full studio album this week. It’s called Resolve and it’s full of well-produced quality pop / rock songs – https://www.trimmusic.co.uk/
Regent – Here We Go Again
Here’s an excellent single from the Southampton indie rockers who recently played at Reading’s The Purple Turtle – https://regentrockbandofficial.com/
Isabella Coulstock – Trouble
Isabella recently played at Wokingham Music Club and a few days later she was at The O2 Arena supporting The Who – https://www.isabellamusic.co.uk/
Michael Burns-Peake – 23
An excellent single from the local singer songwriter who opens Wokingham Festival’s Main Stage in August – https://www.facebook.com/MichaelBPMusic
