One of Reading’s MPs is asking neighbours throughout the area to have their say on the future of the National Health Service.
The Darzi Report that the government commissioned into the state of the NHS found ‘fourteen years of Conservative neglect’, according to Olivia Bailey, the Labour MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire.
Major findings included ‘clogged’ hospital wards, using technology that is 15 years behind what the private health sector is using, and ‘all of us living longer but getting sicker sooner’.
Therefore Mrs Bailey is calling on her constituents to take part in the Government’s consultation into the future of the NHS.
She said: “The NHS has been there for us for three quarters of a century but at the moment it’s broken. This government will act to protect it for the future.
“Labour’s ten-year plan will transform the NHS into a neighbourhood health service, powered by modern technology, that helps to keep us all in good health and out of hospital.
“But we need your help. As a patient, a carer, or a member of staff you see and hear things first hand. We need those insights to make sure we get this right.”

Prior to the launch of the consultation, Stephen Kinnock, minister for care, visited the Melrose Surgery in East Reading, to see firsthand how staff have introduced smarter ways of working.
Mr Kinnock is the Labour MP for Aberafan Maesteg in Wales.
