Millwall have rejected an offer that would have represented the biggest transfer sale in the club’s history for former Reading FC winger Femi Azeez.
The Championship side were approached during the transfer window for the former Royal, with the bid understood to exceed Millwall’s previous record outgoing transfer fee of £15million.
Despite the size of the offer from Ipswich Town, Millwall chose to keep hold of Azeez, who has become a key part of their squad this season.
Azeez, 23, joined the Lions after impressing at Reading, where he came through the club’s academy and established himself as a regular first-team player. Since arriving at The Den, the wide forward has continued his development and has been a consistent attacking presence.
Millwall manager Alex Neil confirmed that the club had received “a big offer” for the winger but stressed the importance of retaining influential players during a crucial stage of the campaign.
The Lions are aiming to remain competitive in the Championship and are reluctant to weaken their squad mid-season, even in the face of significant financial interest.
Millwall’s current record sale stands as the benchmark the bid would have surpassed, but club officials felt Azeez’s value to the team outweighed the immediate financial gain.
There is expected to be continued interest in the winger, with Millwall likely to face further approaches in future transfer windows if his form continues.
