This will be my first edition in the hot seat as editor as both Wokingham Today and Reading Today.

I’d like to start off by thanking my predecessor, Phil Creighton, who gave so much to the community that he cares so deeply about.

Wokingham Today, or the Wokingham Paper as it was back then, took a chance on me five years ago, employing an inexperienced and recently graduated university student.

I will forever be grateful for that and for the amount I have been able to learn under Phil’s guidance.

My background is in sports journalism. After graduating from the University of Brighton in 2018, I set about looking for opportunities in the world of sports journalism and after having to show plenty of patience and persistence, I was lucky enough to land a role with Wokingham Today in April 2019.

Having the chance to report on Reading Football Club, attending matches and press conferences weekly has been a fascinating experience, despite the latter few years being a very dark time in the history of the club.

Emergency services respond to incident at the Oracle

Seeing the power of the fans who have united so valiantly to stand against ownership has been inspiring and I can’t wait for the day when Reading Football Club is back in the hands of someone that truly deserves to own this great club.

I’ve also had the pleasure of connecting with the local community and the plethora of grassroots sports clubs across the borough .

We’ve always tried to champion grassroots sports and that’s something that I will strive to continue.

Despite taking up my new role as Editor, I will still be helping to produce sport content as it’s something that I’m so passionate about.

With big shoes to fill in the Editor’s chair, I’m excited for the challenge that lies ahead.

Thank you to all in both Wokingham and Reading that have welcomed me in my new role so warmly, all of the team here really appreciate everyone’s support of all of our work both online and in print.
