A PRICE war is about to break out … over the cost of breakfast.

McDonald’s is creating a new breakfast meal deal that it says is cheaper than sausage roll favourite Greggs.

From Wednesday, April 17, customers visiting branches of McDonald’s can get a Sausage and Egg McMuffin, or just an Egg McMuffin, with a regular hot, soft or bottled drink for £2.79.

This, the firm says, is 6p less than its competitor, which serves a Sausage and Omelette Breakfast Roll.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “This breakfast deal is so bloomin’ good, we just have to share.”

For those not wanting a Sausage McMuffin, McDonald’s recently brought back its breakfast wrap.

This is a tortilla packed with a sausage patty, an egg, a hash brown, cheese and bacon.

Demand was so high that they had to temporarily remove it from the menu just days after it was introduced because it had been so popular.

At the time, a spokesperson said: “McDonald’s most talked about food launch of 2024, The Breakfast Wrap, was on a temporary hiatus due to unprecedented demand.”

Supermarket Aldi even shared how people could make their own budget version at home.

Other breakfast menu items include a cheesy bacon flatbread, porridge, pancakes and syrup, and a bacon roll.

For years, McDonald’s sold a Big Breakfast – a platter featuring scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and a muffin, but this was removed in 2015.

Those taking up McDonald’s on its McMuffin meal deal need to be aware there are some exceptions to the drinks: customers can’t have a toffee latte, McCafe Iced drink or a milkshake.

And breakfast at McDonald’s is only available until 11am.

McDonald’s has several branches across the greater Reading area, including Friar Street, Oxford Road, Reading Gate Retail Park, and Lower Earley. They are all managed by Richard Forte, and the firm is a sponsor of this year’s Pride of Reading awards.
