ONE OF the dynamos of Reading’s resurging comedy scene is about to undertake his first full headline stand-up show.

Nick Bayard, part of the team at Mates Rates Comedy, is setting out for his first full-length stand-up show, Legitimate Grievance.

Bayard has hosted a number of comedy events through Mates Rates, and performed with the likes of Marcus Brigstocke and Sarah Barron.

He was also part of the team which brought Reading’s inaugural Indie Comedy Festival to venues around town last year, which saw sketch, stand-up, and roast battles across three days of events.

Legitimate Grievance is the culmination of three years of stand-up and will be his debut half-hour set as the headline act.

He’ll be joined by fellow Reading comedian Carl Richard and Alex Bertulis-Fernandes.

Ahead of the show, Mr Byard said: “Usually at comedy showcases and open mics, you are performing short five- to 10-minute sets.

“I created Legitimate Grievance to weave together all of the jokes and routines I have written over the last few years into something that is longer, coherent, and funny.”

He explains: “I love American-style club comedy, so it’s probably not going to be an emotional journey – expect 30-minutes of gags and crowd work.”

He said that, after years of promoting his fellow comedians through Mates Rates, “It’s great to finally be promoting myself.”

Fellow performer Carl Richard said: “As Nick’s business partner, it’s great to see his neurotic energy directed towards a great half-hour of stand-up instead of into my ear holes.”

Legitimate Grievance is showing at The James Street Tavern, Oxford, from 7.30pm on Sunday, November 19.
