A MAN has been seriously injured in an unspecified firearms incident in Tilehurst on Sunday night, and a Section 60 order has been put in place until lunchtime today.
Police were called to Kinson Road, off Lyndhurst Road, around 9pm after they received reports of a loud bang.
The victim is in his 20s, and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A 28-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and remains in police custody.
The Section 60 order gives police greater powers to stop and search people within a defined area. In this case, it is part of Tilehurst, and pictured on the map.
Thames Valley Police wants witnesses to get in touch.
Detective Inspector Matthew Rees said: “I am appealing for anyone with information about this incident to please come forward as soon as possible to assist our investigation.
“Anyone with CCTV cameras in the area or anyone with a dash-cam who was driving in the area at the time of the incident is asked to check their recordings in case they have captured anything which could help us.
“I understand this may cause concern in the community, but this is thought to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.
“Residents may see an increased police presence while we carry out a thorough investigation. If you have any questions or concerns, then please speak to one of our officers.
“Following this incident, a section 60 order is in place until 12.30pm on Tuesday, October 3, to allow officers more powers to stop and search in the area affected shown below.
