A MAN has been jailed for nearly two years for drug offences in Reading.
Jamie Allen, aged 23 and of Hampshire Terrace, Portsmouth, was sentenced to one year and nine months imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on January 22.
Allen pleaded guilty at a hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court on November 15 last year to a count each of possession of Class B drugs, driving a motor vehicle without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, careless driving, and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (namely cocaine).
It come after, at 9.18pm on November 14 last year, Allen was detained by local Neighbourhood officers whilst riding a Sur’ron electric off-road bike illegally on a pedestrian pavement in Coronation Square, Reading.
He had been sat stationary before attempting to ride off as police approached. Allen was then tackled off the bike and detained under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Officers found that Allen was in possession of 60 wraps of class A drugs, as well as class B drugs, along with a quantity of cash of £735.46.
He was arrested on the same day and charged the following day.
He was also sentenced to a £350 fine, six penalty points on his licence, and issued with a fixed penalty notice.
Investigating officer PC Joe Merritt of the Tilehurst and Southcote Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are committed to tackling the illegal use of Sur’ron style electric off-road bikes, being used to enable drug related crime and anti-social behaviour across West Reading. We will continue to pursue those intent of causing our community harm.”
