A man in his 20s has died following a fire near the River Kennet in Reading, emergency services have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to Rose Kiln Lane at around 18:50 GMT on Thursday after reports of a fire in the open.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews attended the scene, with the first ambulance arriving shortly after 19:00.
Thames Valley Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
The force added that the man’s family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were dispatched at 18:48 and discovered a fire on arrival. Firefighters used extinguishers to bring the blaze under control.
A spokesperson said: “Tragically, one person was found to have passed away at the scene. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Crews remained at the scene for around three hours before handing the incident over to police.
South Central Ambulance Service confirmed that two ambulances were sent to the scene.
