A MAN died and a teenager suffered serious injuries during a road traffic collision on Saturday.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to the incident, which happened on the A33 between Mereoak Park and Ride and Wellington Country Park, around 4.06pm.

They said two vehicles – a black Astra and a blue VW golf – were travelling south when the driver of the Astra lost control of the vehicle.

It left the carriageway and crashed into trees.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Basingstoke, died at the scene.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The passenger of the vehicle, a girl in her late teens from Reading, suffered serious injuries and is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A blue VW Golf, which Thames Valley Police believe may have been travelling in convoy with the Astra, briefly stopped before driving off from the scene.

Two men, aged 26 and 34 from Basingstoke, and a woman aged 24 from Woking, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They remain in custody.

Inspector Justin Thomas, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are conducting an investigation following this incident in which tragically a man has died, and another girl has been injured.

“My thoughts remain with the family of the man who has died at this very difficult time.

“We are asking anyone with information or dash-cam footage of the incident to please come forward.

“Additionally, we are asking anyone who saw either of these vehicles or has dash-cam of them to come forward.

“You can provide information through our online reporting page, or by calling 101 quoting reference 43240181466.”
