TODAY, Wednesday, February 18, the M4 is closed between junctions 10 and 11.
This is understood to be due to emergency works being carried out by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) following the discovery of structural damage to an electricity pylon adjacent to the M4.
The distribution network is said to be attempting to complete repairs to the tower, which was hit by a fallen tree, prior to the expected arrival this evening of high winds.
Junction 10 of the M4 had only just partially reopened to traffic following a police chase yesterday that resulted in a car crashing on the westbound carriageway of the M4, near Reading.
A resulting fuel spillage had led to National Highways partially closing the motorway between the Winnersh Interchange and the Three Mile Cross Interchange, for emergency resurfacing.
The two incidents are understood not to be connected.
It is not known how long the M4 will remain closed between junctions 10 and 11, but the road is not expected to reopen for the rest of the day.
With alternative route diversions in place, local roads are expected to be busier than usual.
