An award-winning Berkshire’s restaurant is for sale with a guide price of £1.25 million.
Real estate agency Savills is marketing the sale of the award-winning L’Ortolan in Shinfield, which includes the freehold of the property.
L’Ortolan has been trading from the venue, a Grade II Listed former Vicarage, for more than 20 years. The business generates a net turnover of around .£1.5 million and is one of Reading’s only fine dining restaurants.
The property spans almost 6,000 sq ft and is arranged over three floors. On the ground and first floor there is an 80 cover restaurant and extensive commercial kitchen. A cellar is located at the basement level and there is a separate detached annexe which can be used as an office.
The property is decorated to a high specification with various private dining areas and a demo studio.
Externally, there is a large patio terrace, mature gardens and 40 car parking spaces. The total site area is 1.1 acres and is located on the edge of Shinfield.
Adam Bullas, director in the leisure team at Savills, said: “L’Ortolan is a rare opportunity to acquire an already successful and profitable business.
“Built in Gothic Revival style on an acre of land, its excellent specification combined with the affluent location has made this property extremely desirable and has already attracted interest from an array of operators.”
The restaurant was previously run by award-winning celebrity chef John Burton-Race for 13 years before being sold to Peter Newman in 2000.
L’Ortolan held a Michelin Star from 2001 until 2022, and currently has three AA rosettes.
Newman, managing director and current owner of the restaurant, added: “I can confirm the business is for sale, and the business owns the property.”
