A MAJOR road out of Reading is now open again following closures as a result of a suspected house fire.
Thames Valley Police is currently dealing with the incident in London Road, east Reading, which has led to the closure of the road eastbound, which leads out of town, between Cholemley and St Bartholmew Road.
A number of emergency vehicles were spotted, including five fire engines, and a number of emergency responders.
Police tweeted at around 1.15pm on Friday, April 21, to say that they were on the scene and that there was no wider risk to the public.
The incident occurred between Cemetery Junction and the A329 roundabout, causing delays as traffic built on the nearby Kings Road and Wokingham Road.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 12:08pm on Friday, 21 April, we received reports of a house fire on London Road, Reading.
“Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Whitley Wood, and Wokingham were sent to the scene, along with two Officers.
“The Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Whitley Wood was also sent to the scene.
“Eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels, with the assistance of the ALP.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
“Fire crews were on the scene for around 1 hour and 15 minutes.”
Thames Valley Police’s tweet read: “We are currently dealing with an incident on London Road, Reading between Cemetary Junction and the roundabout for the A329.
“The road driving out of Reading is closed. Please rest assured that there is no wider risk to the public.”
Reading Buses tweeted: “Due to a police incident on London Rd near Cholmeley Rd, all 13/14 services diverted via Wokingham Rd and Church Rd, Earley.”
