A shop in East Reading has been accused of selling stolen alcohol.
Yuvraj’s Mini Market in Newtown has been accused of buying stolen alcohol to sell to its customers.
Thames Valley Police has now requested that the alcohol licence for the store be reviewed.
The application for a review was submitted by police licensing officer Declan Smyth on behalf of chief constable Jason Hogg.
The reasons for the review have been posted on the council’s premises licence applications website.
The report said: “Thames Valley Police submit this application for review in order to address the failure of the premises licence holder to promote the licensing objectives via their insufficient measures to ensure due diligence and promote the licensing objectives.
“The wholesale purchasing of stolen alcohol by the premises licence holder/DPS and staff members at this premises is alarming, and steps need to be taken to safeguard the local community.”
Anyone wishing to comment on the review application can email licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for responses is Monday, October 30.
Yuvraj’s Mini Market at 9 Manchester Road is open from 8am to 11pm all week according to hours listings.
It is understood that alcohol is sold during these times.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service was unable to contact store owners for a comment.
The review could result in the licence being adjusted, temporarily suspended or revoked.
A decision on what action to take will be made at a meeting of Reading Borough Council’s licensing applications committee.
