THE COMPETITORS for one of Reading’s regular singing competitions have been announced ahead of the final next week.

The mayor’s Let’s Sing 2024 competition will see 17 finalists battling it out to be crowned the victor, with this year’s heats open to soloists, duets, and groups.

It will also return to the Hexagon for the final stage on Tuesday, where the mayor of Reading, Cllr Tony Page, will be joined by countertenor Michael Harper, Mary Genis from Culturemix Arts, and Matt Foster from Reading Rock Academy.

A winning competitor will be chosen from each of the two categories: junior and senior.

Soloists Aadya Yadav and Daniella De Freitas are competing alongside Reading School Choir and The Hill Primary School Junior Choir in the Junior category.

In the Senior category, Gazza, Summer Haverson, Alishia Stride, Charis Anne Luke, Chris McGowan, and Martin Butler will be competing alongside group entrants The Project Singers, Weller Voices, Kryla (КРИЛА), Selina and the Howlin Dogs, Time to Sing, Avenue, and Vocalese.

Johnny Walker is set to host and will also introduce an interval performance by dance troupe and Pride of Reading Award winners Kalakunj.

The competition raises funds for the mayor’s chosen charities for 2023/2024: Reading Refugee Support Group and Reading Stroke Support Group.

The mayor of Reading, Cllr Tony Page, said: “We have been incredibly impressed by the entries received for Let’s Sing 2024.

“It is a testament to the wealth of talent we are fortunate to have across the Borough.

“My fellow judges and I will certainly have our work cut out in choosing the winners–it is certain to be an excellent evening at our iconic Hexagon theatre.

He added: “I would encourage anyone who can make it to come along and support the competitors, whilst raising money for two local charities very close to my heart.”

Let’s Sing 2024’s Grand Final takes place from 6.30pm on Tuesday, March 26, at The Hexagon.

Tickets are £14, concessions £9, available via: whatsonreading.com/letssing
