A councillor in Reading has reacted to the ‘awful’ reports of a stabbing and emergency incident at a college in the town.
However, he is sure that the people of Reading will look after each other.
Police and emergency services attended Reading College in King’s Road at around 2.15pm today (Thursday, November 6).
Councillor Dave McElroy (Green, Redlands) said: “Oh, this is awful. I hope the young person is OK as well as everyone affected.
“As a parent, I can’t imagine how everyone is feeling and what they’re thinking.
“But what I know is that in Reading people look out for one another and that’s what we’ll all be doing now.
“I want to thank the police and emergency services for their quick response.
“Let’s continue to support each other, stay calm, and allow the police to do their work.
“Let’s make sure everyone around us feels safe and loved.”
Thames Valley Police maintain a presence on the campus.
Eyewitnesses have reported that armed officers have entered the College.
A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of an assault with injury in Kings Road, Reading.
“A boy has sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
“Search activity is ongoing, supported by armed officers, and a visible police presence remains.
“We advise members of the public to avoid the area at this time while officers work swiftly to resolve the situation.
“We will provide an update when we are in a position to do so.”
Cllr McElroy served as the Green Party candidate for the Reading Central constituency.
