Reading FC have beat competition from several interested clubs as goalkeeper Joel Pereira has signed a new contract.
The 28-year-old keeper will extend his stay in Berkshire and sign a new deal with the club despite interest from Championship Hull City, League One Wycombe Wanderers and others.
Pereira has signed a new three-year deal with the Royals.
Pereira’s current deal was due to expire this month which means he could have transferred to a new club as a free agent, however he has decided to stay at Reading.
Pereira has become a vital member of the Reading side since joining the club on a free transfer two summers ago.
The former Manchester United man spent much of the first season on the bench as David Button had the number one spot for Reading’s 2022/23 League One campaign.
However, the shot stopper, dubbed El Gato, did earn his place in the Royals team towards the end of that season and has kept his place ever since having put in some spectacular performances.
He was on top form throughout the whole of the last campaign and came 2nd in the fans’ vote for their Player of the Season, only missing out to star defender Tyler Bindon.
Pereira joins Lewis Wing having signed a contract extension at the club with more players expected to decide their futures imminently.
