READING FC Women’s manager Kelly Chambers is keen for her team to push on against Manchester City after they ended their winless Women’s Super League run last weekend.
The Royals found their first win of the season in dramatic style thanks to two stoppage time strikes from Rachel Rowe to beat Leicester City.
Chambers believes that last weekend’s win has provided relief to her side and she has now challenged them to find consistency.
“As you can imagine it’s been a weight off everyone’s shoulders,” said Chambers.
“They have been really focused and the three points have helped.
“I gave them an extra day off this week and the last couple of days they’ve been working really hard and now we go into a really tough game at the weekend.
“Within 30 seconds of scoring the first goal we were having discussions in the technical area. We were on top and said ‘let’s go for it’.
“We wanted to try and get a winner and it paid off .
“We changed shape to get back in the game and a little bit of magic from Rowey (Rachel Rowe) helped that as well.
“She does it in training everyday so we know what she is capable of.
“When it goes in like that in the 92nd minute there is elation, you could see it on the bench and the from the girls. It’s like we won a cup final that day the way we did it and how late it was.
“Over the 90 minutes we deserved the points and it’s got us off the ground running.
Reading now face a tough test up against Man City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday.
Chambers continued: “They have started to settle as a group and find their feet. City don’t change their style of play, they trust their processes and the way they play so we’ve prepared for that.
“They’ve got magnificent players and although they are in a bit of a transitional period they’re starting to click and we’ve seen that in their results.
“To have two home games in a row is nice and hopefully we can build on the crowd we had last week.
“They’ve been magnificent since we returned and they’ve been the 12th player for us and definitely were last weekend.
“They’ve got one of the most scary front lines in the league so it will be tough.
“We can take a lot of positives over the last couple of weeks and we’ve now got to deliver that at the weekend.”
