25-year-old racing driver, Bobby Trundley from Wokingham, one of the world’s top autistic racing drivers, has continued his winning start to the season with a class win at Silverstone last weekend.
Bobby is a driver for Team BRIT, the world’s only competitive team of all-disabled racing drivers, and competed in round 2 of the Britcar Endurance Championship on Saturday 4th May.
Bobby paired up with fellow autistic racing driver, Asha Silva from Northampton, driving a BMW M240i.
The pair took on qualifying in the morning, finishing P3 in their class. They then prepared for the 90-minute endurance race in which they share the driving, racing half each.
Asha started the race, driving fantastically to move up to P2. A well-timed pitstop then saw Bobby push on to P1, which he held until the chequered flag. Bobby and Asha are now winning their ‘Cup Class’ championship and are only 5 points off the overall championship lead.
Bobby was diagnosed with severe autism as a child and found a love of motorsport through karting at age 10. He found it to have a profound impact on the way he manages the challenges of autism, and went on to become a 5 x national karting champion before joining Team BRIT in 2019.
Bobby said: “What weekend! Asha drove her stint with incredible maturity and put in some amazing laps, also getting the jump from P3 to P2 on the first lap.
“Once I got in, I set about building the gap as we have a longer pit stop than the other cars in our class. We timed the pitstop perfectly, just as a safety car came out, which played into our hands, meaning I just had to bring the car home for a well-earned P1 in class.
“I can’t thank the whole team enough, the work on the car since the last round has transformed it into a beast. Bring on Snett!”
Bobby races again at Snetterton on Saturday 31st May.
