Striker Sam Smith has issued a farewell message to Reading Football Club after he completed his move to Wrexham AFC.
It is understood that Reading have received a fee of around £2million for the 26-year-old, but will be unable to replace him due to their financial issues under owner Dai Yongge.
Taking to X, Smith said: “I didn’t think I’d be writing this but it’s time to say goodbye for the second time, Royals.
“I can wholeheartedly say I gave everything and it was a honour to be able to return and live out my teenage ambition of scoring goals and leading the line for this football club.
“It’s been a tough decision but a project I couldn’t turn down and an opportunity to move back home closer to my family.
“We had some amazing memories in difficult circumstances and I hope everything off the field can be resolved in the hear future as it’s what everyone associated with the club deserves.
“To those I’ve shared the pitch with, thank you, I’ve made friends for life & played with some amazing people.
“To the fans, thank you for your support, from my academy days to my return to now, you’ve been there throughout it all. See you soon, Sam.”
