Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has challenged his team to ‘move forward’ following their heavy away defeat to Stockport County.
On the back of three successive wins prior to their Tuesday night fixture, the Royals’ run was put to an end with a 4-1 loss.
“I want to congratulate the opposition, they were better than us today, sometimes that happens,” said Ruben Selles, speaking to the club’s official media channel after the game.
“We started the game with some good pressure high up the pitch and came back after their goal.
“Their second goal hurt us a bit and we never really came back into the game. It’s a difficult night for us, but in the last 10 days we won three and lost one.
“The boys have given me everything, it’s happened and we move forward.”
Selles elaborated on the four changes that he made to the line-up, while he also praised the 700+ supporters who made the trip to Stockport.
He continued: “We have enough players to be competitive with some changes in the line-up. We felt it was the best team to come here and try to get three points.
“The support away from home has been amazing and we wanted to thank them. Everyone knows the situation we are in as a club and they really value the effort. It’s important to say thank you.
“We have our target for the season, we will have games like this, like against Bolton. Today was not our day but we move forward.”
Speaking ahead of Reading’s FA Cup tie with Fleetwood Town on Saturday, Selles said: “We need to give it a try with everything that will be available but need to understand that as a club our priority is League One.”
