ON UNITED Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls (Tuesday, November 25) Inner Wheel Clubs all around the globe ‘painted the world orange’ as part of a campaign to highlight and stop gender-based violence.
In Woodley and Reading, members of The Inner Wheel Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh took part in orange events too, promoting awareness and colourful fun in both towns.
The campaign isn’t reserved only for the Inner Wheel, though.
Residents throughout the borough are invited to take part.
Until Wednesday, December 10, the UNiTE campaign to end violence against women calls upon people everywhere to wear something orange in their local communities, at home, in public places , schools and in their workplaces.

“Our members walked around Woodey and Reading town Centre, wearing orange, to raise awareness and draw people’s attention to this important issue,” said Hilary Tindall from Reading Maiden Erlegh.
“We want to highlight, through peaceful walks and activities, the United Nation’s Women’s initiatives, and to demonstrate Inner Wheel support and action for this worldwide campaign.”
As well as walks and crafting, events throughout the nation will include the lighting up of significant buildings, churches, cathedrals and municipal buildings during the campaign period.
