AN ILFORD man has been sentenced to a year and a half in jail for drug supply offences in Woodley.

Recardo Newman, aged 19 and of Wellwood Road, Ilford, pleaded guilty one count each of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, (namely heroin), possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (namely cannabis) a public order offence under Section 4A of the Public Order Act, and obstructing a police officer.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a bladed article at the same hearing at Reading Crown Court on Saturday, September 13.

Newman was sentenced to a total of eighteen months imprisonment.

It comes after officers on patrol on December 11 last year observed a vehicle behaving suspiciously on Huntingdon Close, Earley, near an address known to be linked to drug-related activity.

The vehicle was followed to Woodley, where Newman attempted to leave the scene, when he was detained and searched by officers.

He was found in possession of heroin and cannabis as well as a Rambo knife and a further knife which ada been concealed in one of his trouser legs.

During the search, Newman gave false details to police as he was already wanted for having failed to comply with court requirements in relation to a previous conviction.

He was charged and remanded the following day, 12 December.

Investigating officer, PC Lukas Sehringer, of the Wokingham and Bracknell Problem Solving team said: “This investigation and conviction underlines our commitment to tackling drug dealing and violence in our community.

“We will not tolerate the actions of those who think they can threaten lives with knives and deal drugs in our neighbourhoods. We will pursue, arrest, and convict offenders, ensuring they face the full force of the law.

“If you have any information about drug dealing or related criminal activity, please report it to us.

“You can contact Thames Valley Police on 101, submit information online via our website, or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
