Reading FC manager Paul Ince is still hoping to bring players to the club in the final week of the transfer window.
The Royals are on the brink of being able to register defender Naby Sarr who has been training with the club for several weeks.
He will be able to join the team once the deal is ratified by the EFL after George Puscas’ departure to Genoa on loan.
So far, Reading have added nine players to their squad on either free transfers or loans after being under a transfer embargo for the second consecutive season.
“We’re fishing from the bottom of the pond, no disrespect, but we can’t buy players,” said Ince.
“We had players out of contract so we were put in this situation.
“I’d like to get another one in. I still want to get a left-back in so hopefully we can do this week or next week.
“And also one up front, a little creative player or a striker. We need that.
“We’re covered with defenders coming back. From a defensive point of view I think we’re fine.
“In midfield maybe if I can get another one in.
“We’ve only got three places so if I can get a midfielder and a striker that would be nice, but it’s not easy.
“Once Puscas is done then Naby is done we can bring in another two.
“I’ve been crying out for a left-back so that’s going to be my main priority.”
Ince is excited at the propesect of adding Sarr in defence to give his team more strength in depth.
He continued: “We’re talking about a player that played in the Championship play-off final last year, he’s got bags of experience.
He’s a leader, he’s a character. We’ve got Tom McIntyre and Tom Holmes who are still relatively young so to have him and Hutch back in who are more vocal, it really helps them when they play.”
