IT WAS hot, and it was hotly contested … Pangbourne Rotary Club’s dragon boat raising event returned earlier this month, and on one of the hottest days of the year.
Teams took part in races along the River Thames in a bid to see who would be crowned the best.
In the end, it was a team from ProTarsufacing, known as The Bitchy Boys, that pipped last year’s champions. Humphrey’s Furry Friends, to the prize.
This is the 23rd year that the race has taken part, raising an estimated £235,000 in that time, through entry fees and sponsorship.
This year, £2,500 was gathered, with an estimated additional £1,000 to come from sponsorship.
The chosen charities are Brookfields SEN School and Purley Park Trust, both of whom entered teams and competed in the 30°C.
A spokesperson for the Rotary club said: “All crews had a great day out and promised to return next year.
“Innovations this year were aerial surveillance from the drones of Tony Mc Ginn and Dave Woodcock.”
“It was a brilliant day all round, made possible by the active volunteering of over 20 members and partners, the crews who participated, Henley Dragons, Adventure Dolphin and the Pangbourne Fete.”
