Reading FC fans have reacted to the news that former chief executive Nigel Howe has served the club with a winding up petition.
The Telegraph broke the news on Thursday that Howe has submitted the petition over what he said is money owed to him relating to around £99,000.
Howe was tasked by former owner Dai Yongge to oversee the sale of the club which was eventually sold to Rob Couhig after a long and tortuous process.
During the takeover process, Howe said that he was disappointed that he had been viewed by fans as a ‘villain’ rather than a ‘saviour’.
Many fans have voiced their disappointment that Howe has chosen to serve the club with a winding up petition and took to social media to give their reactions.
One fan said: “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Nigel Howe is a slime ball of a human being. Just something about him. Never liked him even as our CEO.”
Another said: “Even anyone who’s Couhig out or not best pleased with him should be backing him on this.
“Nigel Howe, a traitor to this football club who helped almost run us into the ground. Hope Couhig takes him to the cleaners.”
Another fan added: “Nigel Howe could have been remembered as overseeing the most successful time in the club’s history. Instead he will be seen as a money grabbing rat that has enabled 3 asset stripping and disastrous ownerships.”
Another said: “A winding up petition is a bully-boy tactic used by some in business when they cannot get their way in normal negotiations. The aim is to damage the reputation and credit rating of the business and to panic them into a quick settlement.”
One fan said: “Just as the club is crawling slowly back. He takes a swipe. Definition of low life.”
