AN ARRAY of community groups are set to break bread this Saturday, October 14, to discuss strategies to help the Ding achieve a sustainable future.
Incredible Edible Reading, Reading Food Growing Network, Food4Families, Transition Town Reading and Reading Borough Council will join forces for a participatory workshop, which will serve as a community consultation for food, growing food at home, creating more green spaces in town and teaching children about environmentally-friendly lifestyles.
The event is open to all and will provide the opportunity to try locally produced items to eat and drink, with visitors welcome to bring homegrown treats.
Billed as an evening of “celebration, discussion and action”, the session will feature presentations about the Incredible Edible Reading Vision, conversations about climate action and food growing, seed swapping with the Reading Food Growing Network and digital stories about food from around the region.
Organisers feel that the event will be suited to teachers looking for resources to implement sustainability and climate change strategies at school, community groups thinking of creating shared green space, local businesses transitioning to buying and producing food more locally, or individuals just looking to get involved.
Incredible Edible Reading will provide a feast at the end of the evening.
The meet-up takes place from 7pm at Reading International Solidarity Centre.
