Honest Burgers launches new Caribbean Fried Chicken Special for the month of June, in collaboration with Grenadian tourism board Pure Grenada

A TASTE of the Caribbean is promised for Reading residents visiting a restaurant that specialises in burgers.

Devised in association with Pure Grenada, the tourism board for the island, this month’s special at Honest Burgers is a Caribbean Fried Chicken Burger.

The team-up came about after the board invited members of the Honest Burgers team to visit and gain inspiration for its summer menu. The sun, sea and food all fed into the creation of the special, which is only available until Monday, July 3.

Although one of the smaller islands in the Caribbean, Grenada is known for its high-quality spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and turmeric, and is a producer of high-calibre rums.

And that goes into this special: a buttermilk fried burger drizzed with barbecue sauce mixed with spicy yellow scotch bonnet pepper sauce, an aromatic garlic and herb mayonnaise that is filled with a plethora of Grenadian herbs.

And there is a specially created Spice Isle coleslaw, comprising white cabbage and buttermilk spiced with Grenada’s finest.

Adam Layton, Honest Burgers’ head of food, said: “I had a great time eating, drinking, and dancing around Grenada. The locals are very friendly, and the foods are varied and delicious.

“There were so many treats to be had – if I had to recommend something it would be the crab backs at BB’s.

“I have a renewed faith in rum, which was an everyday ritual. We also picked up some of the local soca and jab jab carnival tunes so expect to hear them in the restaurant.”

Petra Roach, CEO of The Grenada Tourism Authority, said: “Food is a way of life here in Grenada, so it was a great pleasure to host Adam and see him and the team completely immerse themselves in the Spice Isle.

“Our island has an incredible abundance of natural produce, and spices, of course, so it’s fantastic to see how authentic flavours inspired Honest Burgers Caribbean Fried Chicken burger.

“The recipe is not just delicious, it’s also a beautiful reflection of our tri-island state.”
