A READING regular has been recognised for their outstanding contributions to music.

Danny Lampo, while born in Italy, is of Ghanaian descent, performs around the country, including recent appearances at Reading Pride, mixing his multiple influences since 2018.

Now he’s been recognised by the Ghana Music Awards, where he was crowned as the Best Diaspora Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

It is the latest achievement in their career, which started with their love of music as it blossomed at early age, and saw Lampo releasing their first professional single in 2018.

In the five years since, they have collaborated with esteemed artists, garnered numerous awards and nominations, and set up their own record label, Lampo Dynasty.

Lampo also plays for Reading Tigers FC, a team in the East Berkshire League, where he has been awarded the accolades of Top Goal Scorer and Man of the Match on several occasions during his stint there.

Lampo’s musical work mixes traditional Ghanaian influences with modern Afrobeat and popular sensibilities.

His first studio album, African Queen, was released back in February this year, featuring collaborations with Rashelle Blue, SWK, Star Vicy, Dahlin Boss, and AJ Safoa.

He’s also worked in close connection with Yoggie Doggie, who has been a major contributor to Ghana’s hiplife music scene since the late 1990s.

His latest release, the single Puutu, features Article Wan, and comes as Lampo is gearing up for his second European tour.

A Musical Odyssey from Ghana to Europe will see Lampo perform in Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and a number of cities around the UK, with dates set to be announced soon.
