READING FC made it an afternoon to remember as they got off the mark with a win in their opening home Championship match against Cardiff City.

Despite falling behind early in the game, the Royals bounced back as Shane Long marked his homecoming with a goal from the penalty spot 11 years after his last appearance for the club.

Tom Ince then stole the spotlight when he capped an inspired display by scoring the winner with a venomous strike into the top corner to give Reading three points.

Reading host Stevenage in the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The Royals then turn their attentions back to Championship action on Saturday when they travel away to face Rotherham United.
